Congratulations on deciding to become a massage therapist! As you start out, it’s important to learn about the basic requirements to become a licensed masseuse.

Massage Therapist Requirements

  • Submit your completed application
  • Pay all applicable fees
  • Successfully complete instruction from an accredited massage therapy training institution
  • Undergo a background check
  • Obtain insurance

In addition to the above requirements, Colorado has the following additional qualifications you must meet:

  • Undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history check
  • Complete a massage therapy program that contains at least 500 total hours of course work and clinical work from an approved school
  • Pass one of the following exams:
    • Massage and bodywork licensing examination offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards; or
    • National certification exam offered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
